    Riformula sotto forma di domanda, usando who con riferimento a una persona e what con riferimento a una cosa:

    Esempi:

  • My cousins are arriving tomorrow. Who is arriving tomorrow? (“I miei cugini arrivano domani. Chi arriva domani?”)

  • A small plane crashed against the tree. What crashed against the tree? (“Un piccolo aeroplano si schiantò contro l’albero. Che cosa…?”)

    Dal primo esempio si nota che who, what sono usati al singolare.

    1. My sons go to school by bus.

    2. The man carrying a brown briefcase is the principal.

    3. The car hit a lamp-post.

    4. The sheriff arrested the criminal.

    5. A stone chipped the windscreen.

    1. The new edition will be out before Christmas.

    2. Some workers are protesting in the street.

    3. Celia and Barbra don’t like ketchup.

    4. Mrs Rowling’s books have been extremely successful.

    5. The news about the earthquake was shocking.
