monosillabismo. In molti casi la parola originaria è quasi del
tutto scomparsa – ad esempio, taxi
ha soppiantato taxi-cab in molti
paesi di lingua inglese. A loro volta, le parole nuove entrano a far
parte di composti (disco-dance, low-cal
[food]), conversioni in altre parti del discorso (bus
e bike come verbi, da cui il
bussing e il
biking come attività), derivati (anti-flu),
ecc.
