ALREADY, ALTOGETHER, ALWAYS

Questi avverbi hanno una pronuncia del tutto simile a quella delle espressioni all ready, all together, all ways e quindi sono a volte confusi, anche nella lingua scritta, soprattutto dai parlanti nativi.

Si confrontino:

When I got there, they were all ready to leave.	Quando arrivai là, erano tutti pronti per partire.
When I got there, they had already left.	Quando arrivai là, erano già partiti.
The guests were all together in the room.	Gli ospiti erano tutti assieme nella camera.
The room was altogether inadequate for such a lot of people.	La camera era del tutto insufficiente per così tante persone.
She looked all ways before crossing.	Guardò in tutte le direzioni prima di attraversare.
She always looks carefully before crossing.	Guarda sempre attentamente prima di attraversare.

Il problema è analogo a quello degli italiani che confondono “a volte” con “avvolte”, “a posto” con “apposto” e simili.
