Quando avviene la trasformazione di un comando, l’imperativo
diventa un infinito (to +
) introdotto da un verbo come: tell,
ask, say, orderecc.:
Ted,
open the window.
He’s
asking Ted to open the window.
Don ‘t
go to the blackboard.
I told
him not to go to the blackboard.
Quando il verbo con cui si riferisce un discorso indiretto è
al presente, al futuro o al passato prossimo, non vi è
cambiamento di tempo nelle parole che vengono riferite:
It’s
going to be fine tomorrow.
He
says / ‘ll say / ‘s just said it’s going to be
fine tomorrow.
Invece quando il verbo che introduce la frase è al passato, al
trapassato o al condizionale, si opera solitamente un cambiamento di
tempi e di avverbi:
