be come unica forma del presente, usata molto raramente, in
situazioni molto formali;
were come unica forma del passato, usata in frasi
ipotetiche.
Esempi:
Whoever they be,
they can’t go in now.
|
Chiunque siano, ora non possono
entrare.
|
If I were you, I
wouldn’t go.
|
Se fossi in te, non
andrei.
|
The committee has
insisted that the present decision be maintained.
|
Il comitato ha deciso che
l’attuale decisione non venga mutata.
|
Talvolta
certe espressioni idiomatiche, come:
God save the
Queen.
|
Dio salvi la Regina.
|
In
inglese esiste quindi un’unica forma corrispondente
all’indicativo e al congiuntivo italiano.
1. Uso
del tempo corrispondente indicativo. Questo accade
dopo moltissimi verbi seguiti da that,
come: to
think, to be afraid, to hope, to suppose, to suspect, to believe, to
expect.
We think (that)
he is late.
|
Pensiamo che sia in ritardo.
|
She thought

|

che lui fosse in Europa.
|

|

|
I hope (that)
they are all well.
|

|
I suppose (that)
he’s well as usual.
|
Suppongo che stia bene come al
solito.
|
They suspected
(that) he was a liar.
|
Sospettavano che lui fosse un
bugiardo.
|
I believe (that)
you’re right.
|
Credo che tu abbia ragione.
|
I expect (that)
he’ll get up later.
|
Penso che si alzi / alzerà
più tardi.
|
Accade
know, to wonder, to doubt.
We didn’t
know who he was.
|
Non sapevamo chi fosse.
|
I wonder why he
didn’t sell it.
|
Mi domando perché non
l’abbia venduto.
|
I doubt
whether he’ll come.
|
modale, come may, might, can, could, should, will, would, a
italiano.
may, might, can,
could
|
dopo: frasi finali, i composti
in -ever e i verbi che esprimono timore, speranza,
desiderio, augurio, opinione.

allow, to believe, to prefer, to think, to wish, to suspect.
They didn’t
want her to go with them.

perché voi lo possiate indossare.

fatto o la sua ipoteticità:

he was / were in bed.
|
Sarebbe ora che fosse a letto.
